Join us for one-day Pruning Workshop!
Frank Scherer and Quinta Kania Farm are excited to invite you for the full day adventure with trees pruning. We will have a chance to find out, how to perfectly care for our plants:
- when is the best time for pruning for different kind of trees
- why do we prune
- when is it necessary
- what are the principles and best techniques
Workshop is focused on hands-on experience, as we belief it is the best way to learn and remember. Please, bring some sharp secateurs or other pruning tools, if you have. A notebook to write down your notes might be helpful as well. Besides no further preparation or experience is needed.
We meet 9.30am and workshop starts 10am. There will be delicious, vegetarian lunch provided by Quinta Kania kitchen crew 😉 After lunch we will have option to continue the practice. We will work on several different kind of trees, to show different examples, as every tree is always quite unique. Some of our focuses will be: pear, apple, wines, olive and hazel. But there will be also time to ask specific questions about your own challenges and needs.
Payment with cash on arrival.
NOTE: If you feel, that you really want to take part, but your economical situation doesn’t allow you to pay a full price, write us. Let us know, how much can you pay and if you can contribute in any other ways.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Frank started gardening as a toddler in his grandparents’ allotment in Leipzig. A forest warden is what he wanted to become, but he studied architecture instead. After moving to rural Ireland and quitting his office job, he learned about pruning and grafting fruit trees. That was 22 years ago, and he hasn’t stopped since. By moving to Portugal 11 years ago he added citrus and olive trees to his repertoire. Frank lives with his partner and their daughter on a Quinta near Côja and runs Viveiro do Ribeiro, a small scale plant nursery.
The workshop takes place on the open air and there will be always plenty of space to keep the distance. We will adjust to any upcoming regulations and we will keep the number of participants limited, so everyone can feel safe and comfortable.
