Permablitz at Quinta de Mourão, creating a Forest Garden
What is permablitz
Hello, Everyone!
This is a Permablitz, a free event, when we come together and focus on one task. We share our time, work, skills and a meal. We learn how to be a resilient community, that care for one another.
This month we invite you to be part of setting up a forest garden in Povoa de Midões. It’s a great opportunity to see such project at the very beginning and learn from the experience of others.

Here is more detailed info from Veronika:
We have cleared the bottom terrace at Quinta de Mourão of a vineyard and are now preparing the land for a forest garden. There will be a dome greenhouse and 14 beds (each about 5×3 m) with trees, shrubs and understory. The land has been rotivated, and we are currently preparing the beds and paths.
We started mapping out the land and dug the first couple of beds.
The earth is nice and soft at the moment but with a lot of grass clumps, which we try to take out as much as possible.

We will ask you to bring tools (an enchada and/or spade, rake, shovel) to help with sifting the soil in the beds. The grass clumps will be used for landscaping to build up a slope for access to the terrace.
These two jobs will happen alongside each other.
More details to follow, we’ll update nearer the time. Instructions to the quinta will be sent to interested participants.
